Participants develop the skills to solve practical problems of referencing and transforming descriptions of location. They learn about the general notion of semantic referencing, applied to space, time, and theme.

The course is designed for advanced B.Sc. and for M.Sc. students, with separate lab assistance. The lectures consist of discussions of text book chapters and research articles, supplemented by introductory and complementary presentations. Participants prepare each week’s lecture by studying the reading materials in depth and posing questions for discussion in class.

Labs run for two weeks each and are solved independently online, with weekly assistance in the CIPs. Programming languages and tools to use will be proposed when the labs are handed out, but students are free to choose their own. The results for each lab have to be uploaded in LearnWeb by [t.b.a.] of the second week of each lab. 

Course grades are given according to the relevant examination regulations for each curriculum. A grade bonus can be gained from active participation in lecture discussions and from solving bonus tasks in the labs. The deadlines to submit lab results are strict and can be missed only once. Missing a deadline for a second time produces a failing grade (5.0) on that submission, missing it a third time produces a failing grade on the whole course. Submitting all labs and having all but one accepted is a requirement for being admitted to the exam.
