The course will provide a general introduction to syntax and syntactic analysis in the frameworks of functional linguistics. It will present an overview of approaches that regard syntax from the perspective of the communicative function of language and as a product of language usage. The discussion will be conducted from the cross-linguistic perspective, employing data from typologically diverse languages. The students will actively practice how to implement the acquired tools for the analysis of languages of their interest.
