Goals
The goals of this course are to apply Geoinformation methods for environmental assessment and degradation. Within this course we will employ remote sensing image processing methods as well as GIS spatial analysis for land sue/cover mapping, change detection, land degradation and land suitability analysis, natural hazards and risk mapping and finally sustainable development. We are going to employ timeseries satellite images (Landsat, Sentinel and high-resolution satellite images) in Google Earth Engine and Erdas imaging and QGIS. The course will be graded by a final individual practical task in software with a deadline on August 12. Each student will have a project and students can select the topic for their final project from the course topics given during the semester such as natural hazard, land use mapping, land degradation, or change detection analysis. The evaluation will be based on the quality of the project and intended task in the project.
Motivation
Within this course we will practices application of geoinformation methods for environmental topics. We will work with image processing methods, machine learning methods, classification, change detection analysis, object-based image analysis, spectral indices, image classification in Google Earth Engine and Erdas Imagine environments for verity of environmental applications such as land degradation, soil erosion, natural hazard, land use/cover mapping, time series analysis and change detection. |
