On low dimensional algebraic objects, abstract tools from algebraic geometry can be expressed in very geometric terms. The goal of the seminar is to study surfaces and curves on surfaces, in particular proving the Weil conjectures for curves. Moreover, we will see examples of algebraic surfaces and cover blow-ups of points on surfaces, providing one step towards a classification of complex algebraic surfaces.
